Lorraine Clairmont Strickland, 77, of Bennington, VT died on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Albany Medical Center from complications caused by a stroke. She died peacefully while surrounded, both physically and spiritually, by her loving husband, children, grandchildren and siblings.
Lorraine was born on September 5, 1940, the second of five children of Lawrence and Irene (Pinsonneault) Clairmont of Adams, MA. She is survived by her husband, Robert Strickland of Bennington,VT; her three children: Colleen Carpenter of Bennington, VT, Cathleen Morey of Lee, MA (and husband Timothy Morey), and her son Ronald Carpenter of Millville, MA (and wife Roberta); her four grandchildren: Kimberly Stone, Kaylee Morey, Nicholas Morey and Bryce Carpenter; her two great-grandchildren: Greyson and Audrey; her brother Lawrence Clairmont and his wife, Patricia; and her sisters, Josephine Laliberte and her husband, Robert, and Barbara Lewis and her husband, Charles. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister Theresa Michaels.
Lorraine attended local Adams schools. Her family was extremely proud of her when she later earned her GED.
Lorraine and her husband proudly owned and operated the Apple Valley Inn and Café in Bennington, VT for 25 years, continuing until the time of her death. Prior to owning the Apple Valley Inn, she and her husband operated businesses in California and Georgia. Lorraine was a very hard working woman her entire life and she bestowed this work ethic on her children and grandchildren.
Lorraine was a Christian woman who read her bible daily. She practiced her faith in her many acts of charity, kindness and generosity to all those who stayed at her motel.
Lorraine was fiercely loyal and devoted to her family. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and reveled in their accomplishments.
Lorraine was a dog lover and leaves behind her faithful companion, Gabby who was a rescue dog from Hurricane Katrina. Lorraine enjoyed playing computer games and was an avid New England Patriots fan.
The funeral will be held on Friday, Dec. 22nd, at 10:30 AM from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, McKinley Square (Rte. 8) Adams, celebrated by Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor.
The family will receive friends on Friday morning from 9:30 until 10:30 AM at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at a later date in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams.
