Mrs. Harriet Laura (Farnam) Presnal, 93, of Adams, died peacefully Thursday afternoon, October 5, 2017, at her home. She was a direct descendant if the Farnam families of Lanesboro and Cheshire.
She was born in Cheshire on February 23, 1924, a daughter of the late Ralph and Laura (Pelkey) Farnam, and attended Adams schools.
Harriet last worked for Elder Services at the Adams Senior Center and Thrifty Bundle Laundry until retiring. Earlier, she had worked at the former Clark Biscuit Co., the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Co. and the former Mohawk Hotel.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Adams. She was a member of the PNA, the Forest Park Country Club and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She played in the women's softball league as a catcher and was a lifelong golfer, as a member of the Forest Park Country Club, into her early ninety's. She was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan and had lived to see three World Series wins. She was affectionately known as the "Mayor of Spring Street". Harriet moved from Cheshire to Adams at the age of five and lived in the Spring St., Myrtle St. and Dean St. area the rest of her life. She was also a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the David Williams Chapter, NC D.A.R. in Goldsboro, NC.
Her husband, Stanley Presnal, whom she married on September 24, 1949, died on February 23, 2000.
She is survived by a son, Richard Shoestock and his wife Rebecca "Betty" of Lady Lake, FL.
three daughters, Barbara Shoestock of Goldsboro, NC , Sandra Sheldon and her husband Richard of North Adams, and Mary Jane O'Brien and her husband, Roy, of Adams;
Six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her granddaughter Sarah Sheldon and by her brothers, Charles, Leo, Ralph, George and Herbert Farnam; and by her sister, Julia Mikaniewicz.
The funeral will be held on Friday, October 13, at 9:00 A.M. from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a service at 10:00 A.M. in the First Baptist Church, Commercial St., Adams, officiated by Rev. Donald E. Gray, Pastor.
Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams.
Calling hours are Thursday from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
